1969…This game was shown in the opening scene of the 1969 tv series The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. The episode was called S2,E9 Surprise Party.
I have the original 1969 version. The base is red rather than blue, the colors inside the glass marbles are different (the originals are not as rainbow-bright as these), and the artwork of the cardboard head cover, while similar, is different) . My 4 year-old daughter said "Daddy, he looks like Fred from SCOOBY DOO!", so that aspect was always there! Also, the instructions are on the inside of the box lid on the original and the marbles came in a small orange, red, and tan cardboard box in the original (the box read "MARBLE HEAD MARBLES").
So it’s like Jenga but with marbles.
I had this game briefly in '69 or so, and I got it because I had to return my first choice, "Oh, Nuts!" (the marbles-in-walnuts game) to the store, because it had no marbles! ("Lost its marbles," LOL) But I remember tiring of "Marble Head" quickly—its rules were so simple, and it didn't have enough variation of action to keep my interest for long. "Oh, Nuts!" was better in retro, because its rules were more complex and challenging. But "Marble Head" has a "modern art" look that does look rather appealing today. Thanks for bringing it back!
